Fancy door

I am beyond over wreaths. They always fall apart and you always have to change them from one season to the next. So here's my solution, a pretty framed monogram that can stay up year round.

It's pretty simple really. I took a trip to Michael's and bought a fancy wooden frame (doesn't include glass or back... Can be purchased in the wood section), a thin letter J (for Jones) that would fit in the middle and some moss. You can use all sorts of things in lieu of the moss, like fabric, scrapbook paper, wrapping paper... But I liked the look of the earthy green against my red door, so I went with it.

I started by spray painting the frame and the letter. I chose some white that i already had. Pretty simple. Then I took the frame and traced the center onto a piece of cardboard I had laying around. I cut around the cardboard about a half an inch larger than the outline using an exacto knife. I cut it out bigger so there would be enough room to glue the cardboard to the back of the frame.

Next, I glued moss to the inside of the circle that I had just drawn and cut. I used a type of spray glue to make my life easier. I also used moss that came on a sheet instead of loose. It made it easier to handle. I used a hot glue gun to attach ribbon to the 1/2 inch around the outside of the cardboard circle on each side. After that, I hot glued the cardboard to the back of the frame. The very last step was using hot glue to attach my J to the center of my fancy frame. Because moss isn't the easiest substance to glue something to, I put something heavy on top of it while it dried.

And there you have it - a fancy initialed frame for your front door or for the walls of your home! And it'll take you less than an hour (including spray paint) and for around $10. Can't buy a wreath for that. ;)
